Objective:
Throughout the year, Lakeside Theater hosts short film festivals varying in genre and length. Every festival is individually branded, and Lakeside Theater was in need of a visual identity system and collateral related to their newest film fest, Uncanny. Uncanny features four short horror films that focus on the eerie regarding things that are human, but not quite.

Methods:

Mind-mapping
Sketches
Digital Experimentation
Implementation/Mockups
Solution:
The featured wordmark for the event is inspired by the uncanny valley effect, which is the uneasy feeling people often have in reaction to encountering things that almost look human, but not quite. Parts of the wordmark are blurred, not enough that it is unreadable but just enough so it doesn’t feel right, like the viewers eyes are just slightly out of focus. The lines throughout the materials were inspired by the high-pitched string instruments used throughout each film to create an even deeper sense of impending dread. The deliverables for this project included a brochure covering each of the four films, a postcard, a t-shirt to be sold at the event, and an Instagram post.
